In Kitab Thawab al-A`mal: By its isnad from Abu `Abdillah

He said: Whomever recites itha jaa’a nasrullahi wal fat`h in voluntary or oblgiatory prayers, Allah will support him over all of His enemies. He will come with a speaking book on the Day of Resurrection that Allah will bring out from within his grave, which will protect him from the bridge of Hell, the Fire, and the roar of Hell. He will not pass by a thing on the Day of Resurrection except that it will give him glad tidings of every goodness, until he enters Paradise. In this world, sources of good that he would have never imagined will open up to him.

In Majma` al-Bayan: In the hadith of Ubay: Whomever recites it, it is as if he was martyred alongside the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله in the conquest of Mecca.

And from `Abdillah b. Mas`ud.

He said: When the surah was revealed, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله would often say: Glory be to You, O Allah, forgive me, for You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.

And from Umm Salama.

She said: At the end [of his life], the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله would not stand, nor sit, nor come, nor go without saying: “Glory be to Allah, and by His praise, I seek the forgiveness of Allah and I repent to Him.” So we asked him about that, so he said: I was ordered to do it. Then, he recited itha jaa’a nasrullah.

And in the report of `A’isha:

He used to say: Glory be to You, O Allah, and by Your praise. I seek the forgiveness of Allah, and I repent to You.

Muqatil said: When this surah was revealed, he صلى الله عليه وآله recited it to his companions, so they became happy and jubilant. Al-`Abbas heard it and wept, so he صلى الله عليه وآله said: What makes you weep, O uncle? So he said: I think it is informing you of your death, O Messenger of Allah. So he said: It is as you say. So he lived two years after that, and he was not seen laughing and jubilant.

He said: And this surah is called the Farewell Chapter.

And Ibn `Abbas said: When itha jaa’a nasrullahi wal fat`h was revealed, he صلى الله عليه وآله said: I have been informed that I will pass away in this year.

In `Uyun al-Akhbar: By its isnad to al-Husayn b. Khalid.

He said: ar-Rida عليه السلام said: I heard my father narrate from his father عليهما السلام: The first surah that was revealed was bismillahi rahmani raheem iqra’ bismi rabbik and the last surah that was revealed was itha jaa’a nasrullah.

In Usul al-Kafi: Several of our companions from Ahmad b. Sahl b. Ziyad from Mansur b. al-`Abbas from Muhammad b. al-`Abbas b. as-Sira from his uncle `Ali b. as-Sira from Abu `Abdillah

He said: The first thing revealed to the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله was bismillahi rahmani raheem iqra’ bismi rabbik and the last was itha jaa’a nasrullah.

In the Amali of Shaykh at-Ta’ifa قدس سره: By its isnad to Muhammad b. `Umar b. `Ali from his father from his grandfather.

He said: When itha jaa’a nasrullahi wal fat`h was revealed to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله, he said: O `Ali, the victory and conquest of Allah has come. When you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, then glorify by the praise of your Lord and ask for His forgiveness. Surely, He is ever accepting of repentance. He said: O `Ali, Allah has prescribed striving (jihad) for the believers in the schism after me, just as He prescribed striving against the polytheists with me. So I said: O Messenger of Allah, and what is the schism in which we have been prescribed to strive therein? He said: The schism of a people who will bear witness that there is no god except Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, but they will oppose my Sunna and attack my religion. So I said: So why should we fight them while they bear witness that there is no god except Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah? So he said: Because of what they will do with my religion, their dissension from my order, and their permitting of the shedding of the blood of my progeny.

And the hadith is long, and we have taken the relevant portion from it.

In Tafsir `Ali b. Ibrahim:

Itha jaa’a nasrullahi wal fat`h, he said: It was revealed in Mina in the Farewell Pilgrimage. When it was revealed, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله said: I have been informed of my death. So he went to Masjid al-Khayf and gathered the people and said: May Allah support a person who hears what I say and delivers it and tells it to those who did not hear it. There can be a bearer carrying knowledge who is not a scholar, and a bearer of knowledge who carries it to those who have more knowledge. There are three things that the heart of a Muslim person does not feel treachery in: (1) Sincerity in the deeds for Allah, (2) Wishing well for the Imams of the Muslims, (3) and staying close to their group – for their supplications encompass those behind them. O people, I am leaving among you that which if you hold onto them, you will not deviate or err: (1) The Book of Allah, (2) My progeny, my Ahl al-Bayt. The Subtle and the Aware has informed me that they will no separate from one another until they return to me at the Pond, just like these two fingers of mine – then he brought his two index fingers together – and I do not say like this – then he brought his index and middle finger together – lest one be preferred over the other.

In Jawami` al-Jami`: And from Jabir b. `Abdillah that he wept that day, so he was asked about that, so he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله say: The people have entered the religion of Allah in multitudes, and they will leave it in multitudes – He refers to the people of Yemen with “the people” (110:2). The people of Yemen have come, they are a people with gentle hearts. Faith is Yemeni, knowledge is Yemeni, and wisdom is Yemeni. And he said: I see the relief of your Lord coming from the direction of Yemen.

And from Ibn Mas`ud:

He said: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله entered [the Sanctuary] on the Day of Conquest, and around the House there were three hundred and sixty idols, so he struck them with a rod in his hand, saying: “The truth has come, and falsehood can neither begin nor repeat.” (34:49), “Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Surely, false is ever bound to depart.” (17:81)

And from Ibn `Abbas.

He said: When the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله came to Mecca, he refused to enter the House while it had gods (idols) inside. So he ordered [their destruction], and a picture of Ibrahim and Isma`il عليهما السلام appeared and in their hands were diving arrows. So he صلى الله عليه وآله said: May Allah destroy them, by Allah, they know that they never used them (divining arrows) ever.
